hey

what's going on
it's cold like an x out here and i like it.

for now

i tried to get u2 tickets today and was denied. it is the end times when a loyal fan can't get a damn ticket for the show. i think it sold out here i about two minutes and then they added another and it sold out too. i'll figure something, but for now i'm assed-out.

my birds are gonna fly next weekend. anybody wise enough to put money on it?

the new cool thing to do is eat mussels with a dark and heavy belgian beer.

sounded like the party was fun, once again congrats keith, i wish i could be there with you all.

top five songs i can't stop thinking about:
crumbs from your table...u2
love will keep us together...?as performed by wilco
that one jon brion song that's really good
tangled up in blue...dylan
everlong...foo fighters

top one movie i finally saw besides the life aquatic=harold and kumar go to whitecastle.

top one thing in the world=cowboy boots(and i challenge you all to list your top one thing in the world to see if you can beat that)

i was reading the biola connections article about the nytimes article and my favorite part was when jmrenoylds made reference of the nytimes basically having an agenda at the editorial level. This paragraph being peppered with [brackets] to clarify the point he was trying to make. i would have laughed out loud if there was someone else inthe room.

why is the sky blue? it's God's favorite color

best,

You'll even have the opportunity to bid to name the Zoo's newest celebrity couple, a pair of Australian black swans, animals that mate for life — what could be more romantic?

Daily Drink Improves Thinking in Older Women

BOSTON (Reuters) - Women who enjoy a drink of beer or wine daily have sharper minds into old age than women who abstain, U.S. researchers reported on Wednesday.

The report, based on a study of nearly 12,500 nurses, adds to the apparent benefits of light to moderate drinking, which can also prevent heart disease and stroke.

"Our study suggests that moderate consumption might provide older women some cognitive benefits," said Dr. Francine Grodstein of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, who worked on the study.

Writing in the New England Journal of Medicine, Grodstein and colleagues said they found that drinkers aged 70 to 81 were 20 percent less likely to experience a decline in their thinking skills over a two-year period than women who did not drink at all.

On average, the women who quaffed a beer or a glass of wine each day tended to have the mental agility of someone a year and a half younger than abstainers.

The Digs

Here's the plan, as of now. Jesse, Sycz, Dan, Keith, Darren and I are all going early (5am?) Friday morning to miss traffic and get the jump on all you lazy sum bitches. Everyone else (Drew, Andy, Miller, and Alan) is planning on going up on Saturday. All you people who haven't responded...pony up!

The cost will be a mere 10 bucks a person for camping. 5 bucks a night. Cheap. As for food. Each person will be responsible for certain items that the Big Sur gods will demand from them. The aforementioned gods will come to me in a dream tonight and will tell me what it is you all need to bring, All I knows for sure is that my good Sycz is in charge of meat (because, as we all know, Sycz has really got a handle on his meat)

As for drinks. The Big Sur gods demand that there be plenty. Each person must bring enough for many a drink. Avast!

bur sur on saturday...

is anyone planning on going to big sur on saturday? if so, lets get a ride together....word.

all apologies

What else should I be?
All apologies.
What else could I say?
Everyone is gay.
What else could I write?
I don't have the right.
What else should I be?
All apologies.

In the sun.
In the sun, I feel as one.
In the sun.
In the sun...

Married.
Buried.

I wish I was like you, easily amused.
find my nest of salt, ev'rything is my fault.

I'll take all the blame, aqua seafoam shame.
Sunburn, freezer burn.
Chokin' on the ashes of her enemy.

In the sun.
In the sun, I feel as one.
In the sun.
In the sun...

Married.
Buried.
Married.
Buried.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

All in alone, is all we are. (X 20)

no apologies

here, here. What better way to end a hard year, then to spend some time looking back at it, with freinds. Matt, I feel your apology is unacceptable simply because it is unneccesary. So it was a hard year, lets close it and move forward, together.
In moving forward...this past year we introduced distance into our relationships. We live far apart and our lives are moving forward. Sometimes that can seem like we are moving apart. Well we aren't. Just because we don't experience every waking day together, doesn't mean we can't share in each others lives. It just takes a little more effort. Jesse, maybe we could all learn from you on this. Let us all be encouraged by him. Here's to Gloyd.

Apology...

As I told a few fellows, I thought this was the best affirmation I've been a part of in quite sometime. I think the afirmation usually turns boring when we're giving the same affirmations that we've given about people for the last four years or so. Not that its a bad thing, I just liked the direction of the evening and felt invigorated that we have a group of friends who can be so doggone steadfast and strong for each other in the face of great adversity. Maybe I'm wrong, but I felt that a wrap up of the year's events was a perfect way to show the growth and importance of friendship. Anyhow, liquid courage often makes people very sad and or very happy. It also makes people talk and talk and talk for a long time, which, in turn, makes people sleepy and worried that their lovers are getting tired and ancy in an apartment down the alley. I also liked not having to sit in dirt. Viva not being on the hill and getting leg cramps while dozing off in the middle of person A's twenty-five minute affirmation of person B.

Apology

For those of you who felt that this last Saturday' year-end affirmation time was a downer I apologize. I wanted to have the opportunity to look back as a group on where we've been, what we've accomplished, and where we want to go from here. But I think guess this came across with too much of a focus on the bad times. Forgive me for my improper use of the conch.

still in WA

I am unable to attend the hilltop time. My car is in the hospital.
I hope you all have a good time up on the mountain. Any talk of another postponment? How's the weather down there? The internets said that LA has a 80% chance of rain through monday.
It might be a good thing I didn't try cruising down; the whole west coast is getting hammered this weekend. mucho snowo. no me gusta. don't get cought in a mudslide.

This site is certified 71% GOOD by the Gematriculator

this is a weirdo thing {via brendoman} and i thought it would be fun to throw up here and see what you think of what this site does. click on the link and read the explination of their rating. pretty bizare. btw, unit64 got a 78% 'GOOD' rating. i guess my words and phrases are more easily divisable by 7!

An idea for Jesse.

Keith, it might not be too late for you to hop on this train as well...

love will keep us together

wilco played this fabulous song along with some others newyears in nyc. jeff tweedy was wearing pajamas and was jumping around the stage with glee. there was a lot of hugs and kisses and maximum love vibes. i had asked for much guidance in preparation for the whole event...what a party

i'm back at work. i awoke in the middle of the night a few days ago wondering what in the hell was going on as i looked around at this strange place i'm in. i had some kind of dizzy spell. it's great here, but i definitely miss la

i like the cold though, there's something comforting about bundling up. maybe it reminds me of childhood or something. i'd like to go sledding

watch out for the trees

Woody Guthrie Was A Hack

Not really, but...

If you're bored and around my house, listen to Wilco's/ Woody's "Hesitating Beauty." When you're finished, listen to the Carter Family's "Lulu Walls"- both of which can be found on my shelf somewhere. Bob Dylan, in talking about the criticism of Robert Johnson (he may have borrowed liberally from some other less heralded bluesmen of the time) made note of a similar criticism folk snobs made about Woody from time to time. The same could be made about early Bob and Woody and none of it really matters, but it's interesting to see the influence.

Johnny Cash talks about a song Kristofferson had sung to him one time (see my Johnny Cash/ Willie Nelson storyteller's cd) called "Let's All Get Togther and Steal Each Other's Songs" or something of the sort. I don't really give a doggone about people borrowing too much from influences as long as both songs (or books, or movies, or anything for that matter) have the ability to hold up over time, but some people do... and those people are dorks.

It's interesting what makes something last. I've been thinking about it a lot since seeing the mildly criticly panned "Life Aquatic." Many of Wes Anderson's films seem to be universally panned ("Tennenbaums" being the exception) by people who in large part know what they're talking about. His work; however seems to be holding up and influencing people a great deal. Time is the great benchmark, though, and it will be interesting how they hold up in the long run. I believe they will. In the here and now a movie like "Hotel Rwanda" may be recieved better, but will "Aquatic" have the longest lasting impact? Possibly, but then again, I don't think we'll know for a few years. Nirvana has held up, as has Sonic Youth, "Pulp Fiction", and "Owen Meany." Can the same be said for "Forest Gump," Pearl Jam, "American Beauty," and "Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius"? I don't think so, but that's just one man's opinion. One man who has written a song that will most likely last longer than I (S.F.), but one man, with one opinion in a world of several bazillion opinions. It is because of this reality that I am drawn to older things.

I don't think much of the art of our time will be fully realized until our children are old enough to buy things for themselves. Thus; being somewhat on a fixed income of sorts, I would like to save my money for the universally heralded, while waiting for the hidden gem to become substantiated.

If there is one universal thing to be learned, it is this: no matter how great a song Nico is given to sing, she always seems to find a way to mess it up.

.....interesting posting note... I wrote the words "but then again" a couple paragraphs up, at the exact moment Jeff Tweedy sang the words "but then again" in "In A Future Age." It really tripped me out.
