sunday, late afternoon

i hung out with the coldwar kids this week. good times. they played in phila sunday night and then went on to nyc monday. i had to work in ny on tues. so i went up monday and saw their triumphant show at the bowery ballroom. i had never seen them before and am very impressed and am happy for the cold war kids. the bowery was packed and it was a great show and it was really fun to watch them play a really good show there. tuesday night we went to this party in brooklyn in this warehouse apartment that was had kids ontop of kids on top of kids all shoved in this little space rocking out to the two gallants who occupied a corner of the room. it was as if the band had no choice but to rock, their lives depended on it. they would have been forced into the ratholes in the corner if they didn't hold their musical ground, but they did, thankfully. i don't often get to spend time with quality people such as you folks, so i really enjoyed it. wednesday i had to rush back to the office and set up some neon lights because thursday i had an interview with a reporter from the associated press that went really well. hopefully something will come of that for next weekend. my friend june came back from visiting japan this week and last night we went to dinner and enjoyed some very nice sake. i hung out with the mcgraws today, the boats had a show at a coffee house and met emily's sister jenny and just got home. i'm going to indiana wednesday for the day. were getting this little collection of porcelain and i'm going to go out and make sure the packing goes well and do an inventory and do a contract and stuff. lafayette. i'm excited to go to indiana. i've only driven through once before, only the corner. i don't want to say anymore right now.

Tim Hamulack, my favorite Dodger

Dodgers cleanup hitter Jeff Kent came out of the game after being beaned in the seventh. Kent was hit on the helmet just behind his left temple on the first pitch from Giants pitcher Brad Hennessey with one on and nobody out. Hennessey faced two more batters before being relieved.

Kent didn't appear to lose consciousness, but was wobbly as he got to his feet after being attended to by Dodgers medical personnel. He was assisted to the dugout and replaced by pinch-runner Ramon Martinez. There was no immediate word on Kent's condition.

Barry Bonds went hitless in two at-bats, making him 4-for-23 this season. He also drew his 11th walk and was hit by a pitch leading off the eighth by Tim Hamulack, who was immediately ejected by plate umpire Lance Barksdale. Bonds came out for a pinch-runner.

bloggy,bloggy,bloggy,blog

hello,
last night the boats played a packed green line coffee shop and covered david bowie. it was subtely transcendent. happy easter to all.

yesterday morning i went on a local philadelphia morning show taping. i say taping because i don't know if it was aired. it was very bizaar, i did the couch segment with some neon lights and a light bulb from the times square new years eve ball. the turned it over to the weather man outside with the local scoop. they did the traffic on the green screen. but, alas, there was no coffee. no coffee cups. as close as we got was the coffee table. eerie. i say it was.

my parents visited last week and we went to nyc. everyone should go to nyc with the parents sometime. especially if they've never been there before. it was great. we got there friday night having left after work, and we took the slow train, so we were all very hungry by that time. we went to the hotel in midtown and then i decided we should go down to soho to find a restaraunt. there was no time to dawdle, as many of you know through similar experiences of hungry parents in big, loud cities, but i wanted to take them on the subway right away, but had no time for the scenic tour. we went to the closest station, 42nd st. grand central which is one of the biggest, sprawled stations, in which you can spend five minutes walking down stairs across ramps up stairs down long hallways around corners down more steps etc. before finding the platform. we did this all very quickly, me checking over my shoulder to see that my folks were still tracking. they did and we walked right onto a train and i looked at them and they new they were in the city of cities. (new york is again a great city in my mind) it was a really cool weekend aside from the short hailstorm saturday afternoon.

a long time coming: i finished the catalogue for the artkraft strauss collection of signs and related material and its at the printers and it's more of less pink and very spicy. i feel good about it and secretly think the sale might even make money.

it is spring in the city and the people are out. the first signs of spring in a city like this bring people out in droves, walking with the heads up, sitting on the lawns, standing on the corners, enjoying themselves, enjoying life, enjoying a city that for the last several months has plagued them with coldness, rain, snow, sleet, wind and general malaise. joy has a way of filling the general consciousness sometimes as if it is passed through the air by glances in passing, as if it floats around the heads of the people experiencing it. philadelphia can be a wonderful place to live if you are fortunate as i am.

i leave you with this thought. we are doing a proposal to get a big estate in beverly hills that would, most likely, send me west to inventory it. my fingers are crossed.

take care all-b

BBQ/Birthday
Karen is turning 28, and your all invited to our place to celebrate on the date above. I'll send out an email with more info.

Oh shit...

South Park

The show's plot centered around the Mohammed cartoon controversy, opening with a scene where main character Stan is startled out of bed by his hysterical father, who rushes the family out of the house to join the shrieking masses already frantically seeking shelter.

The reason for their panic? In the South Park episode, Fox's animated sitcom The Family Guy is planning to air an episode where the Prophet Mohammed makes a cameo appearance. Family Guy is an animated sitcom, meaning a Prophet appearance would be -gasp! You guessed it- a Mohammed cartoon.

The townsfolk of South Park barricade themselves into the village community center, fearing an American repeat of the violent Muslim response to the Danish cartoons. Only after a news report airs the following morning that Fox made a last minute decision to censor Mohammed do they emerge from their makeshift fortifications.

I'll skip to the end of the episode, as the middle was filled with subplots. This is where it gets a little complicated.

Fox announces that the Family Guy episode was a two-part series, and that Mohammed would appear uncensored the following week. The South Park show ends on a cliffhanger, as the people of America begin burying their heads in the sand to prove their sensitivity to Muslims (they won't hear the show or see the show with their heads buried, get it?), while a voiceover announces that South Park is also a two-part series, and begins asking that Adam West-Batman style of questioning: "Will the people of America be safe? Will Fox let the Family Guy air? Will they show Mohammed Uncensored? Find out next week to see if Comedy Central pusses out."

I told you that story so I could write the following.

South Park used the Family Guy as a metaphor for their own show. Trey Parker and Matt Stone announced to the world that they will caticature Mohammed next week, and dared Comedy Central to stop them.

South Park may be an odd place to find inspirational speeches, but one came from a SP citizen responding to a professor's call to submit to the Islamist temper tantrums:

Freedom of speech is at stake here, don't you all see? If anything, we should all make cartoons of Mohammed and show the terrorists and the extremists that we are all united in the belief that every person has a right to say what they want. Look people, it's been really easy for us to stand up for free speech lately. For the past few decades, we haven't had to risk anything to defend it. One of those times is right now. And if we aren't willing to risk what we have now, then we just believe in free speech, but won't defend it.

A wise man, but too low.

Via Fox Sports Power MLB Rankings

9. Tigers – The decision to cut bait on Carlos Pena without getting anything in return is a bit puzzling. However, the Tigers have wisely handed Justin Verlander the fifth starter’s job, and Joel Zumaya will help the bullpen tremendously. Also, Curtis Granderson could emerge as one of the best-hitting center fielders in the AL this season.
