a year ago

this time last year was a great time. just wanted to reminisc a little bit... Andrew was on a bus somewhere traveling to austin, the rest of the gang there drinking coronas and waiting on some late to arrive mexican food at xio's dad's house... and then on to one of my favorite nights out on the town of Austin. Jesse and I peed in some sort of horse water tank at a bar up on the rooftop deck... kevin got lost and nearly arrested just outside my parents house...

Xio and I will be celebrating our one year up in the wine country this weekend ~ incredible how quickly this year passed. it was a good one.

but, just wanted to recall how great a time i had in austin last year with you guys that were able to make it.

Giddy Up

big sur
Hey holmes,

Do you like beer?

Do you like camping?

Do you like campfires, meat, beer, whiskey, friends, the beautiful California coastline, beer, forests, wine in a box, fishing, beer, and late-night singing to those California stars?

Do you like one or more of the following bands?

* Neil Young
* Pearl Jam
* Foo Fighters
* Dave Matthews Band
* Trent Reznor of NIN
* Brian Wilson
* Death Cab for Cutie
* Devendra Banhart
* Gilliam Welch

That's right folks! It's the 7th annual Bridge School Benefit concert and Big Sur trip. The concert is Saturday October 21, and Lisa and I have already booked a campsite in Big Sur for Friday October 20.

The first 14 people to pony up $7 get a spot. Hell, just promise to pay it, and you're in.

I, I lay my heavy head to rest on a bed of California Stars. I want to lay my weary bones tonight on a bed ...

Dodgers

Did anyone else catch the game last night???!!? Good golly, that was incredible. It gave me a glimmer into what it might feel like to be at a world series game in dodger stadium. Here's to the Dodgers!

Show Cancelled

Sorry for those who were planning to make it out: the Rio Bravo show this Saturday at the Blakkbox loft has been cancelled due to a pending eviction of the loft residents. We're going to try it again maybe in December at a different location. Have a good week everyone.

the beauty of 19th century French Japonism

i'm at work now. i'm gonna have to start working a lot again as my next sale approaches at the end of the month and this frustrates me a little but i'll get over it.

i believe in the power of momentum in my own life, especially in the day to day things

the cabinet pictured here is a real flyer and a highlight of the sale. by gervais-maximilien-eugene-durand its one of the best examples we've ever seen and of the highest quality. done in the late 18th century louis XVI style circa 1890, it epotimizes a market that has grown extensively over the last few years and, interestingly enough, the 19th century pieces actually will outrun a period louis XVI piece at auction. the present work from an important new york estate is in with a conservative estimate of $10,000-15,000 but should realize quite a bit more come September 27.

also

i thought jeff foxworthy was a lock for a weird and dumb fad. and bob dylan's new album is really pretty very good.

A message from Frank

hey everyone,

this is a kinda a last minute invitation, but i hope you can join us.

on sunday, september 10th will be having a small get-together at trevor downie's house at 4pm to welcome back myself, brandon mitsunaga, stephanie crockett and kate swanson from palestine. the four of us spent 1-3 months living in bethlehem (inside the west bank), working for a non-profit organization, living with palestinian families and studying arabic on an international program called palestine summer encounter. it was a crazy time to be there (obviously) and we have a few pictures to share!

also, trevor and darren are taking off to thailand and india this monday, september 11th (good time to fly, cheap flights from what i hear) for a little r&r and exploration. they will both be gone for almost a month. so send your love to them before they go.

so i hope y'all can come through, bring some snacks (vegetarian friendly recommended), drinks and your hookah pipes. we're going to relax this sunday afternoon. please feel free to invite anyone you think will love to spend time with the above mentioned.

again that's
this sunday at 4pm

For info on where Trevor's place call Trevor or Frank or Mike.

Loftiness...

flier

Sorry to overwhelm the porch with lame band propaganda... On Sat. Sept. 23rd, Rio Bravo is playing on the rooftop of the blakkbox loft in downtown LA (some of you were there for mouse and the billionaire and my record release party). 2 words you need to know: OPEN BAR!!! Afterwards we're having a dyn-o-mite party featuring the hot-hot sounds of DJ Ghostblood (aka Ryan Patterson). Please mark it in your calendar and try and make it out, I promise it will be fresh.
