riddle me this...

new orleans is like a different country. they talk funny and drink coffee called 'au lait' which i didn't think i'd like, but i did. i usually like straight black, but the milk got me and that's ok. i drank beer and drove a car fast through wyoming and montana. i recommend it.

Why Robert Downey Jr. and I will never be friends

Don't get me wrong, I like Bob Jr. I even liked his father. But when that son-of-a-bitch decided to grab my wife's ass last night at the CAA party, that was too much. Too much. I loved him in Lost Boys though.

Michel Gondry > Spike Jonze (Part 1)

Everyone (Jesse included, and maybe even singled out) will bow down to the genius of Michel after seeing his most recent video for French pop-guy Laquer. http://www.lacquersound.com/english/opener1.html

Morning movies with jesse...

I have begun the new hour of power. Along with other pre-dawn risers Andy Smith and Mike Scyz, I have instituted 6:00-7:00 am as my movie time. So far, we have watched Notorious by Alfred "Ten Inch" Hitchcock and an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Notorious is a thriller with Cary "Most Likely Gay" Grant and Ingrid "Bloated" Bergman. It was a thriller in the highest degree, wherein Claude Rains is the former lover of dog face Bergman and current Nazi with designs on rebuilding a Nazi force. The pacing of the film is excellent. Hitchcock's brilliance is in that fact that he doesn't get bogged down with needless explanations and whatnots. Pure story. Pure suspense. Lines are blurred between good and evil. We are never quite sure who loves who and who's using who. Those with honor exude honor. Those who are cowardly and evil, exude cowardice and evilicity (new word).

Curb Your Enthusiasm
is brilliant in it's use of dry, gut wrenching humor, and amazingly awkward situations. Larry David (co-creator of Seinfeld) never ceases to amaze in the ways he puts his foot in his mouth repeatedly. In this episode he makes a bad joke about affirmative action to Richard Lewis' black dermatoligist. Insanity ensues. I really like this show for cathartic reasons- as most of you porch dwellers can attest to.

Tomorrow: Terry Gilliam's Brazil

current listening: Bobby Gentry. A 1960s influence on Lucinda Williams. It's a country-fied, soulful, symphonic mess of a deal that's easy on the ear.

lock down

hmmm so i just got back here to my place from the buyou. Someone thought that it might be best if i was kept outside... and locked me out.

i came over to write sycz a note. i opened the door, quietly because it looked like everyone was asleep. i got some paper, wrote my note, and sat on the porch to have a late night smoke. lo and behold i hear some footsteps from inside. i whistle my whistle, and say "sycz" outloud. then i hear a "click" of the door being locked followed by silence.

what's the deal with that? i know there's nervousness about the new neighbors, but please people. take a quick peek out the window and see your bearded buddy, your jovial pal. i promise i wont hurt you!

ps. i don't think it was gloyd, because he wouldn't have heard me, and his footsteps would have been louder. anyone want to fess up?

say it aint so

the vacation is over. i'm in philly and have been working for almost two weeks, very hard and sweating all over my face all the time because it is damn humid. it's great here, i just got my office set-up so i can give you the many details of my life through this wonderful medium. we've got a huge fine furniture sale to set-up and there are renovations and the place is a mess and it does make me appreciate butterfields whose people knew how to work, but that's what i'm here for. this city is great and i eat lunch out of a sidewalk cart everyday. hope you're doing well.

switch?

anybody remember those fantastic 'switch' commercials from mac? man those things were so great, infact... this may be one of my favorites of all time!

i was just linking around tonight and came upon the site for MoveOnPac, which is some sort of democratic public action committee, and i found these knock-off switch ads.(click on any of the names to watch one) some of them are alright, some are kinda propagandaish, but there are a couple of gems

one is from a former ambassador
and
another is from the former Asst. Sec. of State.

you should check em out no matter who you are planning on voting for!

another rumor???

neil is playing a benefit at berkley with jonathan richman. jonathan has played bridge school before. could be boss.

Thank You

I am so fortunate to have such a great group of friends through all the pain and hurt that happens in life. You guys are always there for me and I feel I can talk to anyone of you openly and you will all truly listen about things that I am burdened by. These past few days have truly shown me that God has granted me with brothers and sisters that love me and care for me even in my darkest hour. I want to let all of you know that I will always be there for any of you and that none of you will ever walk alone. I find it hard to thank you all each individually since we are rarely together anymore. At least I can mention you here, so all can see what great people you are.

Thank you Matt O, Jesse, Darren, Matt Miller, Matt Maust, Matt B, Andy, Drew, Robyn, Jen B, Jason, Lisa, Amanda O, Amanda H, Trevor, Julie, Brent, Allan, Dave, Eeta, Keith, Tisa, Billy, Dan, and Miguel y Emilia.

I will fight beside anyone one you in whatever trouble or trail you may face. I will never forget your words. Thank you for for helping me find peace.
