In response to Andy's post & comments

I'm tired of U2, not the band, not the music, just simply the subject. Is it because they're just so easy? They're easy to Love, they're easy to hate. Why must it Always be so passionate? (I for one, am guilty of one of these uncalled for passions.) Dare I say it... they are just another band. Good song...bad songs. Can we move on? There are plenty of interesting things happening in music today. Must we always come back to the same thing? I think my hope when I started this post was to have the last word. I'm sure that won't be the case. Some fanatic will feel obligated to dispprove my attempts to disparage the almighty. I give up....for now. Can I get an AMEN?

You will never have the last word, thanks to the brilliant invention of the "Comments" link.

More to the point, of course U2 is just another band, as much as any band is just another band. But what would we talk about if no one had passion (love or hate) for all those bands? Sure, the conversation can get tired and played out (As I think it is with U2; the most telling part of the link for me was the "lighting up of Bono's face." It's less that his face was lit and no one elses than that we just may be tired of seeing his face EVERYWHERE!!!), but the conversation is half the fun.

One of the most annoying things about U2 fans is their rampant fanaticism. But really, who are they hurting? Nobody. It's just that their fanaticism makes them easy to hate, easy to be annoyed with, and sides are drawn. U2 doesn't suck (in the sense that say, John Tesh inarguably sucks)and neither do their fans. They get to get off on "the greatest band of all time!!!" and the rest of us get to hate them for their supposed bad taste. As for me and my house, we will celebrate the conversation, no matter how stale it may be.

I perhaps I'm just apathetic towards the conversation, forgive me. A better resoponse might have been to change the subject. With that said. Richard Swift is playing at fingerprints in long beach.

Richard Swift!? That guy totally sucks! Compared to the soulful, triumphant lyrics of Bono (cue angel singing, trumpets) and the aching, soulful chops of The Edge (cue aching, soulful guitar) Richard Swift is like an epileptic toddler with a tambourine! Too bad Richard Swift will never be the greatest band in the universe! (Because that would be U2!!!!!)

do i dare step into this fray? yes i will, because i would assume that i fall into the "fanatic" fan category...at the end of the day do i think their music is brilliant and mind shatteringly good? no, i don't. they are just a band, but one that has an energy thats attractive and alluring. my favorite album will always be the on ethat got me into them and on ethat was released 15 years ago. and i agree, they are everywhere right now, but they have done something pretty incredible as well in the business world of the music industry. they have found new fans and new ears in the last four years and that's pretty incredible for an 80s band. as a whole and the world they've created around themselves, hands down its amazing. but as with any band, some albums are better, some songs are better, but i'll stick by 'em. but at the end of the day, i could really just use a drink. maybe some vodka like the kind i have under my desk....

I don't really like vodka, but i have a nice cooler fully stocked with sambuca at all times.

How many of them are there? If there aren't too many, I can get them the VIP treatment of free admission. Let me know.

Why are you still at work?
