this is my phone number

in other news, i saw the kings of leon the other night and it was incredible. i've also been listening to arcade fire, which has moments of transcendency built into it. the features are another great band that abby has shown me. has anyone ever heard the zutons. apparently they are very good. i have been listening to ray lamontange quite a bit as well. "trouble" was produced by ethan johns and has a heartbreaker/crazy love feel. i have been lent a copy of "smile" and am about to listen to it. this guy i work with has sweared by it and i'm a little nervous, but will give it a go later today. i'm afraid of hippies and aged people claiming the current brilliance of brian wilson (who has shown only comic and business genius of late in my opinion). i do own and wear a couple wool sweaters now, but only because it's so damn cold here.

it keeps snowing here every week or so, which is a strange and wonderful occurence. i keep forgetting i'm on the other side of the country.

i have overcome my infatuation with nyc. though it remains the greatest city in the world, i could give a fuck. monday as i was leaving on a train bound for my adopted home of philadelphia, heading into a snowstorm, saying goodbye to a loud, bothersome, heartbreaking city, i couldn't have been happier.

i just read "still life with woodpecker" by tom robbins. a very interesting and amusing book. i'm reading "autograph man" by zadie smith now. this is a complicated and wonderful novel so far. for me a proper step from "white teeth"

everybody should right a little about what they're up to and how they're doing on this thing. all i know about anybody whether or not they're going to some event i can't attend and how much time they spend on the internet based on the strange things advertised here.

be cool -b

dear 267.972.9145,

hi! i will be in new york next week from tues. to sun.! so, is hanging out in our cards? i hope so...

smile is ok. just ok. you are right about b.w.'s comic value. the thing about smiile is that it's not really smile, it's a version of it, a few decades too late. i like it fine enough but every time i listen to it i think "huh. i wonder what the orginal sounded like..."

autograph man is fantastic. i thought it was much better than white teeth, much more cohesive, better characters, and smart little drawings at the begining of every chapter.

i'm reading some john mcphee right now. you should check him out, especially "searching for marvin gardens." also, i recently finished "the fortress of solitude," by jonathan lethem, which i cannot praise highly enough.

well my friend, saying you are missed is a gross understatement. i'd like to hear your voice. in fact, i think i will call you right now.

goodbye 267.972.9145...

We are all well. I know that if you wanted to check out how some people are doing, to the left are links to personal webpages. I hear they are good.

Is "the tony danza show" as good as "the howie mandel show?"
