Sycz-elor Party

Let us celebrate our compatriot Miguel Sycz and his upcoming wedding.

Who: male humans that are friends with Mike and are part of the cool crowd (email me if you aren't cool and we'll try and work something out.)
What: Bachelor Party camping weekend
Where: Montana del Oro State Park (SLO) [tentatively]
Why: Because.
When: Let's figure that out.

Big Sur and San Simeon have been booked up pretty solid this spring, so I thought Montana del Oro looked pretty cool. It is indeed breaking tradition, but it seems like it has ample room for our purposes and is in a cool spot.

Please answer the following questions to help us plan.

1. What would be the top two best times for you to attend the party?
-Late June
-Early July
-Mid July
-Late July
-Early August
-Mid August
-Other

2. Does Montana Del Oro sound good? Check the link. If no, why not?

3. If you could not attend what would be the main reason?
-Money
-Timing/Time off
-Don't like Mike
-Other

4. Is Friday afternoon-Sunday afternoon a good time frame? If no, why not?

5. What are other questions, concerns, ideas you have?

Please respond. Don't be a jerk face.

I forgot to add this about the park: "the best-known beach is Spooner’s Cove, across from the campground."

Yes, and yes. I can and will attend during any of the aforementioned periods of time. This place sounds/looks nice. If I couldn't attend it would be because of a job I don't yet have. The weekend sounds good. I am concerned about how many diapers I should bring.

If we could do it the week before the wedding (like Darren did for his) it would be way easier for some of us out-of-towners, but I'll make it work either way.

Meat!

1. late june/ early july. i'll be in africa late julyish-mid august.

2. the week before the wedding would work as well.

3. i like the place.

4. can we cook whole pig?

5. i can go whenever during the week because of school not happening. if people want to go up to vta thursdayish of whenever we go and surf the day before, we could probably arrange something.

i'll probably be in the Portland the last weekend in June for Strannigan's wedding, any other time is fine by me.

Place sounds good, times all sound good. My only concern will be if I don't pass the Bar, I'm going to have to holed up again for a month or so in July, so that timing might be a little difficult for me. Other than that (and honestly, probably even if that is true), I will be there. Thanks for the heads up and getting the ball rolling, Darren.

Places are great.

July/August would be better.

Money could always be a potential issue, but should be okay given the early notice. Sooner we solidify the plans, sooner money won't be an issue.

Jack can't come.

Pig = yes.

There are two types of campsite: Primitive and environmental.

Should we the "enviromental" a spin or is it too big of a challenge?

"BLOODY NOSE #1 Environmental Site. This site is a 1/2 mile hike from parking area. Bring your own water. Dogs are not allowed at this site.

Vehicles must be parked 400 yards from the site...The campsite will accommodate up to 8 people, but has no water, and is hard to find in the the dark...General Information: Rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, coastal plains, canyon streams and Valencia Peak Wildflowers in the spring; blacktailed deer at dusk on the plains.

400 yards is a long ass way to carry all of that beer. i think having the ability to access the vehicles is pretty key too as we don't want to have all our gear laying around at a remote site if we're off at the beach or something. just some thoughts

Sounds like a banquet of happiness.

The closer to the wedding the better for me too, Dana is giving birth in early may so I'm liking sometime in late July or August anytime.

I like montana de oro. I used to go hiking there all the time when I lived in the area

I agree with ob- I think having our cars close is better for convenience, sleeping in, hauling things, theft prevention, etc...

whats the price tag?

Here's the info for the normal sites:

$15.00 Per Night

This is a primitive campsite. There are pit toilets only, NO showers. Each site is limited to 8 people and 3 vehicles. Additional fees will be collected at the park. There is no overflow parking for extra vehicles. There is no entrance station or kiosk. First come/first serve visitors pay at the self-pay station, which is located across from campsite 2. Visitors on reservation should check in with the camp host at campsite 22. Firewood is also available for purchase at the camp host site.

The reservation period is from Memorial weekend through Labor Day weekend. The rest of the year the campground is available on a first come/first serve basis. Horse and environmental campsites are available by reservation year round.

90 bucks for 2 sites for 3 days.

Figure: 10 bucks for gas/parking. 10 bucks for the sites. 30 for food. 30 for booze.

I would say 80 dollar weekend. Now you know, so you can start saving.

I don't mind hitting up Costco (RYAN?!) the day before and picking up supplies rather than then traditional ralph' frenzy.

When the time draws near, we can do shopping list requests via the porch (cool ranch, gloyd?) Just know that you have to pay me. You'd be robbing a steward of the mysteries of God. Failing to pay me would be like helping yourself from the offering plate. Or like devising an elaborate plan to swipe books from the library of a Christian college.

In! I am in... deep!

I too may very well be in Portland for the Lindsay wedding. However if it comes down to conflicting dates, I must say the Syzc-elor Party will take the cake.

The park is great. I've slept on her beaches once before. Ample room for baseball playing and pig eating and beer drinking. Can't wait.

To Miguel!

As for the primitive campsite, I can provide a port-a-loo. A bucket with a toilet seat on it. Should provide for some laughs. I am down for whenever. Is cowboy boots and nakedness considered appropriate attire for this festive occasion?

Ok. I'm thinking of adding a new dimension to the bachelor experience: keg. What say you? I think we could keep it cold. And it would rule. I can see it now,"Sycz 2009: Pig n Keg." We can make t-shirts.

OK, it seems that late July/August is the consensus. With the closer to the wedding the better, correct?

I'm down for the weekend before, but let us have a word with the Chief and come to an agreement.

Blogger miller said...

Damion, the toilet is a great idea, but I don't see why we'll need it, since, as Ryan pointed out, plenty diapers will be available, and Jesse,Jayson and Drew, being the most experienced, will be changing all of us. That brings me to my next point(s): changing tables and baby powder. Who's bringing them?

Blogger Sycz said...

The end of June I will be going to a wedding in Oregon as well. And I know that Jesse will be in Africa for the first 2 weeks in August. Regardless of when the date of the bachparty is, these are the things I will guarantee for the weekend.

A whole roasted pig

Much booze and Lutheran lollipops.

Baseball.

Also, dmh and I were thinking to pick teams for Baseball as soon as we can so that we may have a few months of shit talking and trips to the batting cage.

Keep the comments coming. I love you guys.

There will also be viewings of my new penis.

i want to be able to be at this event. if it is when i can't go, i will dissolve into wench onion inside of you juice.

I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but roasting a pig is a really bad idea. It's not like you just put a pig on a spit (a task in itself. and dear god, i hope no one has experience probing pigs), and stick it over a fire. There's a degree of skill involved. So there's the health risk, not to mention the cost of a whole pig (that probably weighs well over 100 pounds). I am for picking teams soon though.

Miller, how dare you insinuate that our man Mike doesn't know his way around a slab of meat. That man has been slow roasting since before he could walk! He came out of the womb with a fork, a knife, and an old cafeteria plate from Biola.

Looks like someone might be eating brussells sprouts all weekend.

Beer Bat??

I also like the idea of a keg- cleaner campsites, less hauling of 12-packs, and environmentally friendly

no need for question marks in regard to the Beer Bat. I would absolutely challenge all-comers in a Beer Bat chugging contest. i'm putting you all on notice, including Gloyd...

Updates: Mac is planning on attending too, but he won't post that, so I'm doing that for him. When is this again? Primitive = better. The more primitive, the more better. This will be awesome.

i propose two bachelor parties. one in late june and one the week before the wedding. cool? yes.

2/15/2009 10:00:00 AM
Blogger dmh said...

Ok, so the campsite designations are confusing. Primitive is the least primitive. Enviromental is actually the more primitive.

Enviromental means no other people around, but hard to find in the dark and a long walk to carry stuff.

Privitive means cars close, but also other people close.

I'm down for whatever, but Sycz is the master of the pig so he is supreme chief. We must gladly follow his instructions for prime meat preparation and consumption.

Quick Summary:

This is how it looks so far from the responses I have received:

Late June: Lindsey's wedding (date unknown, maybe the 20th). A number of the crew will be there (O'Brien, Pool, Sycz). If the 27th becomes available, the proximity to that wedding is a problem.

July: bad for Greg

July/August: Good for Drew

Late July/August: not good for Gloyd, Good for Andy

Early August: Favored by Miller

Weekend before the Wedding (August 15th): favored by Matty B, Me.

Anytime: Billy, Patterson, Keith, Bush (?), Belt
-

Does anybody else want to weigh in?

I agree. Very priestly. Way to shepherd the the flock...

I vote environmental.

Speaking of flock, what are the chances of getting a lamb in addition to the pig? We are going to be there a whole weekend after all...

I can't do July 11-18 now, and the sooner we know, the better I can plan...

Why isn't August good for Gloyd? Africa or something? Let's do August! Let's DO August! Ladies...

That was a Demetri Martin reference, in case I just creeped you out.

i've talked with sycz. we will do a separate fishing in the mountains eating pheasant type trip in july. i will be in africa until the 15th, but i will have been away from jack for two weeks and on a plane for 20 hours (and detoxing for an emotionally taxing trip) so the chances of me being able to make it in august are slim to 0. i will try my best to show my face but i'm pretty sure it won't happen. darren is ruling though.
