Current TV

the new itv

in other news, there was just an unfortunate incident involving a stapler and my thumb.

the bluebird has landed

i have lived in boise for about a week now, and i have yet to see a potato.

our place is good. we live in the oldest apartment building in boise, built in 1908 by the Hummel Firm - the same firm that built the state capitol building. it's a nice, old apartment consisting of brick walls, hardwood floors, and ten foot high ceilings. we live about a block from the boise co-op, which is idaho's version of whole foods, and about a five minute walk from downtown. doug martsch (built to spill) lives about six blocks from me.

the bad news is we don't have our stuff yet. the movers say it will probably arrive at the end of next week. luckily, we have access to a washer/dryer, so we don't have to wear dirty clothes.

i want my stuff. more specifically, i want my music and books.

we saw sufjan stevens last sunday, which was a pleasant surprise. he was very good.

beer is cheap here. my plan for a cigarette free idaho existence has already failed. it's unbearably hot. i miss friends, but have the feeling that this will ultimately prove to be a good place. we don't have internet at home yet (i am at the fantastic boise public library right now), but when we do, be ready for the first installment on the "here we have idaho" blog.

yesterday we got idaho drivers licenses and plates. that took away my california license, presumably so i wouldn't sell it to a desparate idaho teenager hell bent on underage drinking. this was hard to understand, as idaho drivers licenses seem like they would be very easy to forge. i was sad to see the "california me" vanish into a void of confiscated identification cards. we opted for plates featuring a picture of a bluebird. it was that or a plate boasting "idaho - famous potatoes."

miss you all, more to come...

addressesess

Hello. hope everyone is doing well. Could you all be so kind as to respond to this with your adresses for wedding invitations. Thanks a ton!

Hello Friends

I miss you all.

I hear things were good in Hawaii.

Funny story for all of you. I was at my parents home at work last night and while eating some wonderful chicken and pasta that my mother had made, my father and I were watching TV while a commercial for the movie "The Forty Year Old Virgin" plays.

Me: "That looks really funny, I want to see it."

Me Dad: "You better get a girlfriend or that's going to be you."

Me: "Fuck you."

Me Dad: (laughter)

what i know i think

read more steinbeck, listen to more country music and do more manual labor.

steinbeck- screw Hemingway, Steinbeck is King!
Country music- alot of crap but some gold...honest and truly unique to U.S.A.
manual labor- don't know if i could do it for a living but during the summer break from teaching it is nice to make some money and see things actually materialize in front of you. plus beer tastes better after working hard.
Beer:Thirty sure is welcome at the end of the day.

MISC: ever heard of the song Beer Run?
Let me Quote:
B double E double R U N Beer Run
B double E double R U N Beer Run
All you need is a Ten and a Fiver,
Keys and a Car and a sober Driver,
B double E double R U N Beer Run.

Chrystel now sings that to Autumn...

News from Seattle

At the end of September I'll be leaving to serve in Ukraine with the Peace Corps.
Hopefully I'll be able to come down to LA sometimes before then to see everyone. Other than that, I will be starting work at Autozone on Monday (Pretty Awesome, huh?), and I've been making good use of the trails in the great state of Washington.
I also saw the Cold War Kids while they were up here. They played in a biker bar in Pioneer Square. Oddly enough, the bikers seemes to like them. I'm already anticipating all the jokes about having once had a Ukrainian girlfriend, so I guess we'll see how clever Darren and Jesse in the way they generate such humorous statements. Hope all is well with everybody.

M@

I'm sorry.

I just heard that hawaii got aids.

Jesse- by the way, your wedding mix cd is on constant rotation in my car...well done.

the virtual porch
drumanji hamilton, or mr. amanda cunnigan, as we know him now, proposed the idea of having an outlet where porch time would be able to exist, suspended in time and thought, within the confines of... THE INTERNET. so please, grab a high life, spark up a jay, and let the musings begin...

a note from drumanji...
the following email is from andrew hamilton...

Gentlemen:

Please excuse any misspellings, exaggerations, or
otherwise eccentric behavior.

I am drinking
the whiskey.

First, the Bayou is a Bayou no longer. The mighty
magnolia has fallen; no shade falls on the sacred
roof; the tender semen smell laces the cool morning
air no more; the leaves do not litter the path;
possums do not swing, nor waddle, nor twitch; and the
landlord's grandmother turns in her grave. Perhaps she
waits for the troubadour, Jesse Gloyd, and his
promises of evening love for the dead, as strummed on
a bandaged guitar.

Or,

Perhaps not.

One thing we know for sure. The Bayou, as we have
known it, is gone. Much too much pale light changes
the atmosphere; no better, no worse, only changed.

In other news, Iraq has been returned its sovereignty,
Michael Moore continues to prove his stupidity on a
national scale, and a new Bevmo has officially opened
in Pasadena. And yet there remain those who doubt the
existence of a God.

Disagreements:

Jesse: In continuation of our real time porch
conversation of last night, and picking up the pieces
of this virtual one, David Fricke, despite his (what
you call) boyish, and (what I call) frighteningly
preserved and (ultimately) bizarre looks, is
definitely not our generation's Greil Marcus. Greil
Marcus is first and foremost a social scientist. He is
a semiologist who bridges pop culture and philosophy.
He is a connection-maker by trade, signifying the
hitherto mundane or merely factual. David Fricke is a
music critic, albeit a usually very good one; with the
exception of his wasting 5 stars on Adrock and the
After School Crew. Greil Marcus on the other hand, is
a critical theorist, much like Lester Bangs, Roland
Barthes, and David Hickey.

There is, my dear boy, a difference.

Of course, too be fair, the only writings I have read
of David Fricke are those in his tiny column in RS. He
(usually) has good taste in music. He (according to
the blurb in italics, apparently) has been to more
shows than I have. I am sure that the 500 words he
gets per month are not a qualitative sampling of his
thoughts on pop culture as we know it, and, were he to
have a few books, or even a longer section, I might
change my mind. But, until he convinces me otherwise,
I will not hold him as my generation's Greil Marcus.
Instead, I pass that mantel on to either Nick Hornby,
or Jon Singleton. Whom, come to think of it, are
probably closer to Greil Marcus's generation. So, oh
well.

On to other thoughts...

Old Music or New Music?

Is there anything worth listening to these days?

Do they make it like they used too?

Can there be such a thing as new music, given the
range and subconscious influence of music history?

Considering the existence of the blues, has there ever
been any such thing as New Music?

If there is such a thing as New Music, that is, music
that has no place, only new, nothing to tether it to
the long corridors of tradition and influence, music
that uses nothing that anyone has ever used before, if
there is this New Music, what does it sound like?

Ok.

Enough.

I am getting a little big for my britches, a little
dogmatic.
After all, there is so much goodness to be enjoyed,
why question it?

As long as it makes you want to

a) scream
b) cry
c) smile
d) quiver
or
e) motherfuckingdance!

it's ok with me.

In other
news...

Andy:
I continue to pray for you.
Matt: You too.

A & M: Don't get discouraged. No matter how many
teenage love handles you see, never forget that while
you are being paid (albeit ten dollars a day, or
whatever), to travel around the country and play the
rock and roll, some other people don't get to do that.
Not that some people mind that much. No, but
seriously, I can understand why you guys might get
discouraged, and I'll be praying for you. That must be
draining.

Matt: Is there a concrete plan for your B.P.? If no,
do you want there to be? J-Glo and me gots plenty of
time on our hands, if you want a plan to be in the
works. Also, I heard about the rehearsal dinner
situation with your mom. I am sorry, and I am praying
for you too.

Jesse: I have nothing to say to you. Oh wait, yes I
do. Thanks for the CDs. Bill Evans kicks so much ass.
I am burning you some selections from my collections
that you might appreciate.

And, I am officially tapped out. I take my last drag
of cigarette,
, pat Matt on the fur
coated shoulder, (pat-pat), pee in the dark because I
believe the light bulb is burned out in the bathroom
again, , and, collapse into a bed writhing
with Sylvia fleas. Good night boys...

-Andrew

P.S. Jesse, I read today that white sage is an ancient
aphrodisiac. Supposedly, if you bottle the smoke and
then sniff it through a straw, it will make you very,
very "potent," if you know what I mean. You should try
it.

P.P.S. A&M: Mustaches? Are you mustachioed? Oh god I
hope so...

kisses,

a.

a couple quick things

i'm using the internet at the place of love and "whatnot", so i'll have to be quick.

first. the wedding was great. thanks all for coming. i look forward to more funness in the future.

two. someone gave us really cool coleman equipment but didn't put their name on it. i think it may have come from someone who posts/ reads the porch, so if it came from you... thank you very much. i imagine i'll use the stuff with you, whoever you may be, sometime in the near future.

three. i'm missing a black and a navy blue zip up hooded sweatshirt (two) the blue is from gap and the black is from somewhere else. i miss them and have had it in my planner for some time now to post something. so i am.

cool.

i'm going to go eat a parrot and poop on a my tie.

I have a dream...

I was reading the billionaire this morning. He spoke of dreams. As I navigated through his linkadelic website, reading his tidbits and what nots, I realized something. I had a dream. I don't often remember dreams, so this is ...well it's something.

You all were there. We were walking down a dirt road, a ravine on the right side. Somebody asked m'lady how we were doing. I think she said something that hurt my feelings, so of course, I decided to hurt hers. In the midst of all my sorries I was nudged, and began to fall down the ravine. I remember thinking it was very important to land on my feet. I made my way down the ravine, bouncing off of the ground, bushes and trees, trying to stay on my feet. Through out my fall I was holding a large Wardrobe in my left hand. I landed safely at the bottom. Dan came bouncing after me. Turns out he just thought it looked fun. Next thing I know we are all at the bottom of the ravine eating McDonalds.

I wish I could always remember dreams.

For those of you who didn't hear... Nate Rose was strangely attacked by some jack-hole in San Diego.

Sycz went and saw him yesterday and hung out with him for an hour or so. He is in great spirits and was released today.
