happy thanksgiving

hey
the new u2 album is so damn good. i guess they get to just define what is good. that must be how it works. whatever sounds comes off their album is just inherintly good. i think they must have sold their collective soul to God and hey gave it back for this album.

also, long weekend for me. haven't had more than two days off and usually just one day if i'm lucky since i got here, so i'm pretty excited to decompress a little. i'm reading dylan's book, which i really like. abby's going to be here until friday morning, so that will be great, and everything else is pretty much normal.

happy thanksgiving to everybody and i hope that you all enjoy time with friends and family.

dirty comic makes good, becomes God

bob

are you Searching for HOPE?... PURPOSE?... RELIEF? Or maybe just answers to some of life's most complicated questions?WELL THAN LOOK NO FURTHER MY FRIENDS... BOB SAGET WILL SAVE YOUR SOUL!

funny, kinda

Faces of Death!

Would you like to know what kicks some ass? Well, let me tell you. Jesse Gloyd dancing like some sort of possesed soul man to the bass player/guitarist/lead vocalist/keyboardist/percussionist of Latin Vida's slap bass solo during "Brick House" in Primm, Nevada, and then driving like a champ through a snow storm. More details to follow on my blog...

L.O.L. to you all, especially B.L. R.I.P., B.L. ;.) !

Also, I kicks some ass.

I am so bored.

note: Fatima, the Rockness Monster, goes to Claremont and is a really cool dude. He also just did a music video for the Old 97s.

Darren, the debunking Christian Rock Stars link is amazing. I had no idea that all of those things were swimming just beneath the surface of all of my favorite Christian rockers! Now I can feel good about getting rid of all my Christian rockers' cds (because they hide their cultish leanings under a bushel) and keeping my Led Zeppelin (who don't. oh no!). Thank God for the Southern Baptist Convention.

I kicks some ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Top 4: In-Flight movies.

So here I am sitting on the couch after an afternoon of making drinks for loud, fat, unhealthy high school girls(Venti Carmel Frappucino, extra carmel, extra whip cream, extra chocolate syrup). I was thinking about seeing a movie to pass the time and realized I had a few choices, some of which would probably be terrible. The movie in question is "After the Sunset". It got terrible reviews so I decided I'd pass it up. It's probably better watched on a plane. So, for all of you who'd like to respond....

Top 4 movies you've seen on a flight that would probably be terrible otherwise, but you've got a coke and pretzels on your tray table and couldn't be more entertained by the captain's choice. Mine are:

1. The Replacements- Keanu Reves and Gene Hackman in a football comedy.
2. The Italian Job(the new version)
3. The Thomas Crown Affair
4. Red Planet(val kilmer on mars)

good day to you all,

andy

not just the weather is gloomy

say what you will about the L.A. media but I'll take it over Seattle any day. I don't know what it is, but every time i turn on the news it's something about parents starving their children, teachers having sex with their students, trucks driving into houses, the latest sex offender escapade, not the normal L.A. type bummers but really freaky evil stuff. and they hammer on it. i guess cuz they don't have hollywood in their backyard. But i'd rather hear about ben and jen and paris and jessica and nick than Joe Inbred.

the new new hotness

this is just a little sneak peak at the new new hotness that is to come when i unleash the fury of our rock and roll wedding on you. you can check out more pics (later on today) on unit64.

dismantling a perfect record

i listened to the entire new u2 album last night. achtung baby has been my favorite album since i was in 5th grade...this new one might be passing achtung baby on the scale. its a smart album, but more than that it is a beautiful album, cohesive and daring. it's just musical...everything works. it is U2. guitars singing and bono wailing. i really can't put it into words, but this album is a beautiful rock album....not as hard as i thought, but hard enough. its not often these days to have an experience while listening to a new album, to not be thinking crtically but really just have an experience. they are streaming the album on mtv.com. check it out...it is best really loud and with some wine to go with it or any drink of choice.

art, wine, tecate, and good vibes

Well, It's nearly one o'clock in the morning and I'm sitting on the couch nodding off as usual. I find it rather relaxing to fall asleep on the couch first, wake up at 3am, then go to bed...it's like an appetizer to the main course. I digress. I am back this evening from a fantastic Amanda Hamilton art show opening at Claremont. Well done Amanda. Well done Drew. Well done every man woman and child who made it out to the oasis in the abyss of east east east LA.

ghost sighting in tv commercial?

here's an interesting link (via boingboing) that i came across this evening. here's an excerpt of what it is:

Strange phenomenon in this European TV commercial. Watch very closely and turn the sound up so you can catch the eerie "sigh" at the end.

"If you turn up the sound, you can also hear whispering. The ad was never put on TV because the unexplained ghostly phenomenon frightened the production team out of their wits. Watch it and about halfway through (after the car comes from behind the trees) look closely and you will see the white mist coming up from behind the car and then following it along the road!"

so check it out kids. i found the best results to hear the things that they are talking about is to war headphones and turn the volume all the way up. pretty spooky. oh yeah, it's quicktime.

James Tweedy

I just want everyone to be aware that I just came across a Huntington supporter by the name of Mr. Jack Tweedy. Mr. Tweedy lives in Orange County.

Jack, of course, is the nickname for John, which starts with the letter "J," as does the name James.

James Tweedy.

Ah Billy, how I miss you.

In other news, I hate Nick Harcourt. He is a big moron. He has a funny way of taking perfectly good musicians and turning them into big morons by playing watered down adult contemporary versions of usually good songs. The only saving grace for the whole Morning Becomes Eclectic operation is when the artist is good enough to shine through Harcourt's schlop.

rocklists.net

a great way to waste a lot of time. this is a fun one. i bought merle haggard's 1st album yesterday. there's so much out there... i was bombarded by so much that i need... everything pavement, diamond dogs, hunky dory, to start with bowie, working man's blues, some eddie arnold and george jones wouldn't kill me, lou reed's berlin is supposed to be good, i don't own andy warhol, the john lennon acoustic outtake album just released sounded real cool, the list could go on and on. i could buy two cds a day for five years i imagine, and not be stumped as to what to buy. it's hard to buy right now because of the immense selection and the lack of funds. one has to be selective. but if you had no qualms about what you're buying money-wise, you could just start knocking off "every album you should have in your collection." nevermind and love supreme. modern lovers and rum, sodomy, and the lash. paul's boutique and electric lady land. lust for life and the temptations greatest hits. it would never end. booooo to not having money. in other news, i'm listening to elvis costello on kcrw. he was interesting in the interview, but the music sucks. nick harcourt is rising on my list of pretentious annoying people who i listen to too much. also on the list- sean hannity, both jamie and danny, heidi, frosty, and frank, and... wait... willie nelson and julio iglesias are singing via my airtune country music station... beautifully over produced latino-country gold. to all the girls i've loved before...

wilco update

i posted about wilco being on morning becomes eclectic a few posts ago. they're not playing today, friday (it's elvis costello!), but next wednesday the 17th. sorry about the miss-post. you can check out either of the broadcast by going to kcrw.

ping pong

pp

someone showed this to me like a year ago or so, but i saw it again this morning while i was surfing on metafilter. it's a couple of guys playing ping pong as if they were in the matrix. it's absolutely amazing. you can check out the flash version here, or if you want to download a wmv file to play on your computer whenever, click here. i love these guys.

uh oh, bad news for the whittier crew.

TV Show '24' Coming to Cell Phones
In a test of new third-generation (3G) cell phone technology in the U.K., 20th Century Fox is planning a "spin-off" of the Fox TV drama 24 that will be streamed in one-minute episodes (or "mobisodes" as 20th is calling them) to Vodaphone cell-phone users over 24 weeks. The first episode is scheduled to debut on Jan. 30 but is not expected to make an appearance in the U.S. until mid-2005, when the 3G technology is rolled out by Verizon, in which Vodaphone owns a 45-percent stake. The spin-off is being produced by Spark Hill Productions, a Hollywood-based company operated by Jayson Won and Matt Kennedy that produces DVD "extras."

a new day

well. its been a crazy month for me. i went to vegas over halloween. won some good money and came back with the feeling that vegas stresses me out. but it's always fun. i turned 25 and it was a great party and i am glad a good many of your guys made it out. i acted in a little short film, that i hear is pretty good. stewart redwine and myself have reconciled our differences and become friends again. i just started working at a new job on monday, so no more spyglass. i am working for a writer/director named Rod Lurie. He did a film called The Contender and The Last Castle, to name a few. I am back at the Disney lot for this gig, but am enjoying it so far. Longer hours...not great pay...but has much more promise as a job. U2 has a new album coming out. I have already ordered two of the versions of it on AMazon, plus the singles. IS there really that much difference between the two? not really, but I just gotta have it. I plan on getting the U2 Ipod as well, just to have as a collectors item. i heard most of the new album today and it felt real and right for the time, not too mention its just really good.
i haven't seen a lot of you in quite some time, so hopefully that can be reconciled. Drew--i am pretty close to pasadena at my job so lets hang out sometime soon. maybe on thursday or something...i will call you, or you call me. or email...there are vast possibilities of communication in this day and age.
i'm excited to hear the music that comes out of red west's sessions up in temecula. maybe one of these days we can really do a video.
so that's about it for now. oh yeah, i went ice skating on saturday night in culver city for a birthday party for a friend turning 33. there were lots of scantily clad jr high girls there. it rocked.

At School...

I'm at school and in a yelling at kids mood. I'm teaching a piano class. They aren't even talking that loud, but I want complete silence. Is that too much to ask? Complete silence. I amm baffled at how I can yell at them to be quiet and they get quiet, for about one minute before the talking starts again. I think I'll send someone top ALC. I haven't done that all year. I'm a pretty nice sub. All I ask is that they give me some peace and quiet to work on writing and read my book. I'm almost done with Kavalier and Clay. It's a great book. I've restricted myself to reading only while at school. I usually try and go two periods of reading, two of writing, and the final two I make my wild card periods where I can either write, read, or surf the internet.

Greetings from Temecula

Jayson, Matt, Ryan and myself have been recording in Temecula for the last 2 days fueled by Johnny Walker, High Life, coffee, and creative vibes. It's been good to record the first new material with the band in the last 3 years and hopefully it will yield a great EP. Things haven't been going my way- I've broken a dozen guitar strings while recording my guitar parts and at one point got so frustrated that I tossed the guitar on the ground thus breaking off the headstock. Now, this would be bad enough if it was my own guitar that suffered- alas, it was not. Before we headed out this weekend I called up Ian Nickus to borrow his prized vintage equipment which he so graciously lent to me. The guitar that I was playing was his gold early-80's Les Paul. Ouch. Now it is in 2 pieces. Please pray for the health of that guitar. Hmmm...what else...I start work at Starbucks on monday- as Matt put it: I have bent over for the man with a big target on my ass. He's right.

Talk to you all later. Getting the shakes from coffee is really relaxing.

New compy...

Myself and Andy went out and bought ourselves matching ibooks. They are the bomb. They are the diggity. I haven't been on here in a while so I think I'll ramble. I've been watching some great dvd television shows. Both Curb Your Enthusiasm and Freaks and Geeks have been making me happy with delight. Larry David reminds me of me some of the time. He also reminds me of Andy. I am also writing something new which is always fun. It is known right now as the 5th film by Jesse Gloyd. Though it should be 4 1/2th seeing as I was blessed to have worked with the budding auteaur Mr. Joey Detroit. Since becoming internet famous with Monkey Show's and such, he dropped the Sanders. Joshing aside... big ups to Darren's video prowess. It is the talk of the whittier and we all look forward to more dynamo productions.

Anyhow, I'm working on my oft-ill fated Goldrush movie. I've already scrapped 50 pages I've written in the last couple weeks in favor of giving it another fresh start on the new compy. It should be fun. It stars Pernell Roberts. I am also happy because the Dodgers may be getting a little catcher named Mike Piazza.

I will leave you all with this little word of wizdolm... Good NIYT!

Oh, that long night before...

Top Five Night Befores, in Ascending Order:

5) December 4, 2001, the night before I turned 21. For obvious reasons.

4) Any night before I was going to Disneyland between the years 1986 and 1992.

3) August 16, 1998, the night before I left home for college.

2) January 3, 2004, the night before I got married.

1) November 1, 2004, the night before tomorrow, possibly the most stressful and certainly the most anticipated election day I have ever witnessed.

48% to 47%, with a 3% margin for error.

I mean holy shit, do they want to give us all heart attacks?

Here's the truth. On this night before, I still have not made up my mind. I really, really want to be satisfied with my decision to vote for Bush, but there's this lurking uncertainty in the back of my mind. It has a lot to do with Halliburton, assorted conspiracy theories, a dislike for arrogant Republicans in general, and about six or seven other things that I already decided didn't merit a rational desicion. But they're still there...

I'm not convinced Kerry would be the better choice. I'm pro-life; he's not; that seems pretty clear. I don't like his wife. I don't particularily trust him. But somehow there is this nagging feeling that a vote for Bush will be a huge mistake.

I think it has a lot to do with living in a pretty liberal area, and being inandated with anti-Bush sentiment on a continual basis. It's easy to shrug it off for a bit, but after a while the slogans start sticking, and you start thinking "What if they're right? What if he is a big moron? What if he is just pandering to the interests of corrupt corporations? What if he is crazy?"

I'm sure he's not crazy, though he might be pandering to corrupt corporate interests, and he can be a bit moronic sometimes. I think what it comes down to is I have never felt so much riding on a choice that I just can't make. There seems to be an extreme urgency to this election, and for once, my opionated nature isn't quite coming through. I'll probably end up voting for Bush. But, as a certain uncle says.. "It'll be our secret..."

All that to say, it will be a long night before. Good luck gentlemen. May our individual choices be dispassionate, rational, and informed. And let us swear never to apply bumper stickers reading "Don't Blame Me, I Voted for Nader" to our gasoline burning vehicles.

See you on the other side of Nov. 2, 2004.
